Wesley Yiu
PhD Student
Wesley is a PhD student investigating resistance mechanisms associated with liver metastasis in melanoma patients treated with immunotherapy. His interest in cancer research began during his Master of Biomedical Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), where he completed an industry-partnered thesis on drug-immune interactions in pancreatic cancer. At Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA), Wesley focuses on testing new therapeutics in novel mouse models, integrating multi-omic approaches to uncover strategies that may overcome immunotherapy resistance and potentially benefit liver metastasis patients across various cancers. With an engineering background spanning robotics and biomedical systems, he brings a quantitative, systems-level perspective to open questions in cancer immunology. He is eager to learn from and work closely with scientists and clinicians to translate research findings into better outcomes for patients with melanoma and other cancers
